Lots of workers would take a pay cut in exchange for a shorter commute

Nearly nine out of ten commuters living in counties Meath and Kildare say they would be very interested in working closer to home.

Just over four out of ten of them admit they would be willing to take a pay cut in order to make it happen.

Forty three per cent of those who have taken part in an online survey by Meath and Kildare County Councils say it takes them between an hour and an hour and a half to get to work, while 12 per cent face a journey time of up to 2 hours.

Men tend to leave earlier than women to commute to work, with 16 per cent of heading off before 6.00am compared to just 8 per cent of women.

Sixty four per cent of respondents living in Meath were unhappy with the cost of their commute, compared to 56 per cent of Kildare residents.
