Manky enough.
Step away from the mascara... A new study shows your make-up could be quite manky.
Researchers at Aston University say that 90% of used products are harbouring potentially harmful bacteria. They examined 467 lipsticks, lipglosses, eyeliners, mascaras and beauty blenders and found that 93% of these products had never been cleaned.
More than a quarter of beauty blenders and one in ten lipsticks and lip glosses were found to be harbouring E. coli and other closely related germs while nearly two-thirds of products had been dropped on the floor.
Scientists behind the studies are warning people that using dirty cosmetic products can lead to skin and eye infections. They added that consumers are putting themselves at risk and that manufacturers should be making a greater effort to protect people by making expiry dates and cleaning requirements more prominent on packaging.
