Wednesday January 22nd is the deadline.

We now know for definite when we'll get to have our say on who represents us in the next Dáil.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has set the date for Saturday, February 8th, marking the first time since 1918 that such an election takes place on a Saturday.

The Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government has confirmed that the deadline to register to vote is Wednesday, January 22nd.

If you registered to vote in the last year you will have to get yourself on the supplementary register, because the current draft register will not be activated in time for the 8th of February.

Not sure whether you're registered to vote?  Get in touch with your local authority or visit www.checktheregister.ie.

If you find your name there you don't need to do anything else.

However if your name isn't there, you must complete and submit the relevant application form, bring it to your local Garda station along with photo ID and sign the declaration in the presence of a Garda.

They will stamp the form and you'll have to get it into your local authority by Wednesday, January 22nd.
