The race was due to be held on October 25th but it has been called off "in the best interest of the health and wellbeing of all those involved".
Organisers say they looked at a number of alternatives to run the Dublin Marathon safely but none was viable.
A record 25,000 people were due to take part.
The cancellation of the Reek Sunday climb of Croagh Patrick has also been announced.
Thousands of people usually flock to the mountain in Co. Mayo on the last Sunday in July in honour of St. Patrick, but this year's climb has been called off because of concerns around social distancing.
