Gardaí have seized drugs, guns and ammunition in a number of searches in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
The searches were carried out yesterday as part of an intelligence-led operation under Operation Stratus, a Garda initiative targeting organised crime.
It started back in October 2018 to tackle criminal activity in the Drogheda area.
Gardaí searched a premises in the centre of the town yesterday at around 3.45pm and found a holdall bag containing three handguns, assorted magazines and various ammunition.
A man in his late thirties was arrested and is being detained at Drogheda Garda Station.
Separately, shortly before lunchtime yesterday, cocaine with an estimated street value of €1,400,000 was seized.
It happened after a car was stopped and searched at the Donore Road Industrial Estate.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and he is being questioned at Drogheda Garda Station.
Gardaí carried out further follow up searches late last night and seized around €25,000 worth of cannabis.
Assistant Garda Commissioner John O'Driscoll says they will continue to pursue gangs involved in supplying drugs:
"We are having an impact that we're constantly targeting the organised crime groups involved and I think if we get the assistance of all those who have information about drugs, we can have even greater impact."
