The AA says greater deterrents are needed to prevent incidents on our roads
The AA says greater deterrents are needed to prevent incidents on our roads.
This comes after the August bank holiday weekend saw over 1 hundred and 70 drivers arrested for drink or drug driving.
One person lost their life in a collision during the period.
And almost three thousand speeding offences were detected throughout the country.
Head of Communications at the AA, Paddy Comyn, says the Government should reevaluate the penalty point system to make drivers further consider their actions:
"We should never be comfortable with the loss of life of course, but certainly, we're seeing this year a bit of apathy setting in that we didn't see in the last couple of years.
"I mean as much as you can celebrate low levels of road deaths, last year we were at a very low level.
"Progress has been made we just need to get vigilant and on top of these statistics because as you know there's a family behind these numbers."
