Could this be the beginning of the end for the dog face photo?

The dating app Plenty of Fish has announced that it's bringing in a ban on filtered photos on the platform, saying its research shows that most users prefer to see honest images of potential dates.

It surveyed 2,000 singles in the United States and found that just over half of them agree that face filters should be banned from dating apps.

Twenty three per cent said that if a potential match was using a face filter, they would view them as insecure, while ten per cent would feel they weren't serious about finding someone to date.

When it comes to what users deem to be the "worst" face filters, the dog ears and tongue takes 22 per cent of the vote, followed by the bunny filter at 20 per cent and fake glasses at 18 per cent.

The flower crown and the deer round out the top five.

Plenty of Fish says its ban is coming into effect straight away, so pictures with face filters will be "moderated and removed."
