The Taoiseach has suggested there will be income tax cuts in the next budget.

Leo Varadkar also says the country must pay down its debt and build up an anti-austerity fund for the future.

He has been speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway event in Wicklow.

He says he doesn't want a repeat of the austerity measures of the past when there is a reduction in revenue:

"What we're not building up is a rainy day fund. What we're building up is an anti-austerity fund, so that when that day comes when revenues fall off, we won't have to cut pensions, we won't have to increase income tax, we won't have to cut back on investment."

"That's the way I'd like people to see it."
