(Source: Pixabay)The Residential Tenancy Board says Gardaí should have the power to arrest anyone illegally evicting a tenant.
The Dublin Inquirer reports the RTB’s recommendations were sent to the Housing Minister, at his request, in November last year.
It’s calling for fines to be introduced to penalise those carrying out illegal evictions.
Sinn Fein’s Housing Spokesperson, Eoin Ó Broin, is calling on the Minister to listen to the RTB’s advice:
"This is one of a number of very sensible recommendations from the Residential Tenancies Board in the report requested by the Minister on foot of an illegal eviction a number of years ago."
"They're very very sensible, they're about upholding the rule of the law, protecting tenants from wrongful behaviour and they should be implemented."
