Almost 90 per cent of under 18's aren't paying for their rail journeys.
That's according to a new survey by the National Transport Authority.
Over 21 thousand passengers were surveyed as part of the study.
According to the Irish Independent, the study was carried out by researchers on behalf of the NTA rather than ticket inspectors, and was conducted between January 2022 and March 2023.
It discovered that suggesting Iarnrod Éireann could be losing out on over €12 million a year because of fare evasion.
The highest fare evasion rate was among those travelling on the commuter trains in Cork at 15 per cent.
The research found the DART and commuter services are where passengers are most likely to dodge paying their fare.
