Hundreds of flights from Dublin Airport could be cancelled over the coming weeks due to disagreements about overnight flights, according to Ryanair.

Fingal County Council says Dublin Airport’s summer schedule is in breach of a condition in the planning permission given for the second runway.

The airport’s operator, the Dublin Airport Authority, has been given six weeks to implement changes.

Dara Brady from Ryanair says the issue is very significant:

"We have 33 aircraft based in Dublin, those aircrafts are primarily starting to depart the airport from 6am. That's people going out on their holidays to Spain and those flights departing at 6 o'clock would no longer be able to or a proportion of those flights would no longer be able to take off."

He continued, "Those aircrafts cannot be moved into later slots that are already full, there is also a rival airport slot. So, the issue here is very significant."
