Four unaccompanied children and two pregnant women are among fourteen hundred refugees who've been sleeping rough here in recent weeks.

A new study by the Irish Refugee Council has examined the impact of homelessness on those seeking international protection..

Its described the lack of government-provided accommodation as a 'new low' which affects peoples' dignity.

Irish Refugee Council CEO, Nick Henderson says even vouchers given to the refugees aren't enough:

"Even with that additional voucher people are struggling so much to get by."

"They would have to buy some food with that, maybe some clothes to wear, and then also possibly things like a tent or a sleeping bag, although some people have been able to access those from homeless services."

"And then huge issues around the idea of mental health; the idea that you come to a country to seek asylum and you're homeless."
