It was good while it lasted
The unexpected splurge of sunshine this September is set to come to an end today.
After peaks of 28 degrees, temperatures are expected to fall in to the low 20s today, with heavy downpours forecast for a number of areas.
A status yellow high temperature warning was in place yesterday morning for the country.
But today that's all coming to an end as Emer Flood of Met Eireann says Sunday will bring torrential rain in some parts:
"For Sunday it looks like there'll be even more of the wave showers. They will become more widespread during the afternoon and again many will be heavy with the possible heavy thunderstorms developing."
She continues, "So, there could be some poor travelling conditions at times or possibly some spot flooding and also, temperatures quite warm in the low twenties."
Mist & fog will mostly clear this morning to leave a dry start for many with sunny spells 🌤️
However, it will be cloudier in the N & W with patchy rain ☁️🌧️
Scattered showers developing later on, some heavy 🌦️⛈️
Highs of 21-26°C 🌡️📈
