Groups of young people have been spotted combing a beach in Donegal after suspected cocaine washed up.

More than four million euro of the drug was found in Dunfanaghy on Wednesday morning.

Gardaí are urging people not to tamper with any packages if they find them.

Gardaí are appealing to people along the Donegal coastline to keep an eye out for suspicious material.

One package was found on a beach in Fanad, with another later reported at Tramore Beach in Dunfanaghy.

Former Donegal Garda Sergeant, Christy Galligan, who worked with the drugs squad, says it's likely the drugs were coming from South America.

Sergeant Galligan, says the value of what was found could be very high:

He added, "Most likely from a larger bundle of cocaine that was dropped off in the Atlantic ocean and was supposed to be picked up by maybe another ship."
