Sinn Fein is calling for the food regulator to have the power to investigate anti-competitive practices.

It comes as leading supermarket chains prepare to meet with Government officials this week to discuss growing grocery prices.

It’s clear that for most, people feel they’re getting less bang for their buck.

From the aisles of the supermarket to halls of Leinster House, it's a persistent concern.

Tomorrow, the Dail will debate a new bill that allows for an agri-food regulator to be appointed.

Sinn Fein have questioned whether the regulator will have sufficient powers to clamp down on any anti-competitive practices.

Meanwhile, Junior Enterprise Minister Neale Richmond is holding a meeting with the heads of the big supermarket chains on Wednesday to address rising prices.

But he’s ruled out introducing price caps.

Figures from Kantar show the rate of grocery inflation is up 16.6 percent in the year to April.
