More people will now the able to apply for the government's cost rental scheme.
The income thresholds have been increased for households earning a net €66,000 a year in Dublin, and €59,000 for the rest of the country.
Its a significant jump from the previous nationwide limit of €53,000.
Mike Allen from the homeless charity Focus Ireland is welcoming it, but says attention also needs to be given to those struggling to find secure accommodation.
He said: "People in this category who are going to benefit from this are probably more effective at going to their TDs and putting pressure on their TDs.
"Fair play to them and they deserve it - but I think government needs to respond to people who are much lower down and who are suffering very much but [who are people that] don't necessarily turn up at clinics and don't necessarily have the same political clout."
