It has soared after declining during the pandemic

Global cocaine production is now at an all time high.

Coca cultivation rose by 35% between 2020 and 2021, according to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

CBS News report this is the sharpest rise since 2016.

The report found a combination of the rise in population and a rise in cocaine use to be the blame.

The research came after a submarine with two dead bodies and nearly three tons of cocaine on board was seized in the Pacific Ocean.

Also the increase is due to the expansion in coca bush cultivation and improved techniques in making cocaine.

The main markets remain in North and South America and Europe but there is a "strong potential" for expansion in Asia and Africa, according to UNODC.

It also found a rise in the use of crack cocaine in some western European countries.
