Gardaí will NOT take industrial action during the US President's visit next week - but say co-operation for future VIP visits is not guaranteed.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors remains embroiled in a rostering dispute with the Garda Commissioner.

The 150 delegates present have agreed to co-operate 'under protest' next week, and to protest on one day of action every month until August.

The threat of 'blue flu' remains, involving garda members ringing in sick on the same day.

AGSI general secretary, Antoinette Cunningham, says the 150 delegates have agreed to withdraw their labour on a particular day in future, if a resolution is not found:

"That could affect policing if it happens. We would urge the Garda Commisioner not to let that happen. We would urge the Minister for Justice to intervene in this dispute, we asked him that yesterday."

"The control of all of this is in the hands of the Garda Commissioner if he chooses to fix it."
