Gardaí in County Cavan are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident which claimed the life of a male pedestrian near Ballyjamesduff

Gardaí in County Cavan are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident which claimed the life of a male pedestrian near Ballyjamesduff.

The man, in his 50s, was discovered on N3 near Billis Bridge.

It is understood the incident occurred sometime between 10pm on Thursday and 12 noon yesterday.

Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Following an examination of the area, it was identified that the male was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.

Gardaí in Bailieborough are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.

And to any person who is aware of a vehicle with unexplained damage, in the wider Cavan/North Meath area.

Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who may have video who were travelling in the area on Thursday and noon Friday to make this material available to Gardaí.
