A new survey claims 63 per cent of people have "very few fears" about crime.

The Garda Public Attitudes Survey also claims 81 per cent of people say local crime is not a serious problem.

The survey asked over 7,500 people about their feelings about Gardaí and crime.

90 per cent of people surveyed trust the Gardaí and say officers treat people with respect.

While 63 per cent said they have "no fears'' or "very few fears'' about crime.

81 per cent said local crime is not a serious problem with national crime being seen as more of an issue.

Elsewhere half of respondents didn't worry about becoming a victim of a crime.

It's worth noting that this survey was carried out between August and December of last year and well before a number of high profile incidents in Dublin this summer
