It's claimed the entire country could have complete broadband coverage in the next 3 to 5 years.
Ireland could have complete broadband coverage in the next three to five years if pressure is maintained by the government and services providers to ensure the implementation the country's broadband strategy.
That's the view of ComReg as new figures contained in its 2023 Broadband Connectivity Survey reveal
44 per cent of people now work from home online at least one day a week.
One third operate from home at least three days a week.
ComReg Commissioner Garrett Blaney said it would keep pressure on the government to achieve maximum coverage:
'We're expecting to see most people having broadband now in the next three to five years.'
'But it's very important as a regulator we don't rest on our laurels and we keep the pressure on.'
In its latest annual report ComReg says its imperative that targets for complete broadband coverage across the country are met.
Mr. Blaney has stated significant investment in broadband must continue, in order to reach this goal:
'There's a transformative effect on education, entertainment, retailing and so many other areas.'
'There's a lot of investment happening at the moment and we need to just continue that investment.'
