They talked about the "reinforcement of content moderation" and "freedom of speech"
On a trip to New Orleans in the U.S., the French President met Twitter owner Elon Musk.
The face-to-face meeting was unannounced and involved an "honest discussion" about the platform.
Emmanuel Macron says they talked about the "reinforcement of content moderation" and "freedom of speech".
This comes after the President criticized the billionaire's relaxation of moderation rules.
Mr. Macron claims it's "a big issue" and that there are "responsibilities and limits" to free speech.
The Tesla owner sealed the deal to buy the social media site back in April.
Transparent user policies, significant reinforcement of content moderation and protection of freedom of speech: efforts have to be made by Twitter to comply with European regulations.
