It'll be sunny, but you'll still need an extra blanket.

Alright, let's get the bad news out of the way early, temperatures will drop to zero or below freezing for each of the next three nights.

According to the Met Éireann forecast for the Bank Holiday weekend the mercury will also drop to zero tonight (Friday), lows of -1 to 2 degrees on Saturday and zero again on Sunday.

But thankfully that's all the bad news we have for you!

As we reported earlier in the week, Met Éireann is predicting a dry and settled weekend overall, with temperatures reaching no higher than 15 degrees.

But little to no wind and plenty of sun!

And due to the "anticyclonic conditions" (basically the exact opposite to a cyclone) over the weekend, Met Éireann has promised that it will feel pleasantly warm despite the slightly lower temperatures.

Water safety warning.

However with the impending decent weather, the Irish Water Safety has reminded the public that although sunshine is promised over the bank holiday weekend, water temperatures are still very cold.

According to Irish Water Safety an average of five people drown every two weeks in Ireland.

The organisation is urging swimmers, sailers and anglers to be careful if visiting the coast and inland waterways this weekend.

Spokesperson Roger Sweeney says cold water shock and hypothermia are a deadly combination.

”Remember to swim within your depth”, he said.

”And remember that the water is still cold, about 11 degrees, and the inland waterways are about 8-11 degrees.

”But that’s still cold and hypothermia can still set in, cold water is defined as under 15 degrees Celsius.”
