Get the scrapers and de-icers at the ready.

Many woke up this morning to frost on their car windows for the first time in awhile.

According to Met Éireann - the cold snap is set to get even colder tonight.

Temperatures will dip below freezing in many areas, with lows of -2 degrees celsius in places.

Before the cold hits tonight - it will be dry and sunny with temperatures hovering between six and nine degrees.

However, frost will linger overnight as temperatures dip to welcome in the wintry weather.

According to Met Éireann - there'll also be fog and mist lingering in areas tonight so care will be needed.

The forecaster is predicting a week filled with sunny spells and scattered showers - as well as cold nights.

They say it'll come as a surprise to many given the mild October and November we've had so far.

If you're heading out tomorrow morning, remember to leave plenty of time for your journey.

For those travelling overnight - gentle manoeuvres are the key to safe driving so take extra care in slippery conditions.

Given the forecast for the week ahead - it seems that the cold snap overnight will be something we'll have to get used to.
