The free contraception scheme is to be expanded to include women up to 35.
The Irish Independent reports that Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is to expand the scheme.
The scheme is currently available to women between the ages of 15 and 31.
As well as widening the age range, women will be able to get the pill directly from a pharmacy without a GP prescription.
The expansion of the scheme is expected to be launched in the summer.
However, a date has not yet been confirmed.
The free contraception scheme started in September 2022 and has been extended in different stages since then to reach more women.
The scheme saw 200,000 women access it, in the last 12 months.
Currently covered in the scheme are GP visits to discuss contraception options, the cost of the pill ,the insertion and removal of contraceptive devices, the device itself and emergency contraception.
