On-call firefighters are back responding to calls, servicing their equipment and co-operating with control centres from this morning.
SIPTU has called off its planned strike following the decision to have a formal hearing at the Labour Court next week.
Negotiations attended by SIPTU and the local government management agency lasted seven hours yesterday.
Firefighters however won't attend drills or training courses for the meantime.
SIPTU Division Organiser Karan O Loughlin says work will now commence to avoid more strike action:
"They are very stoic in their position and steadfast and were absolutely willing to commence the action in the morning. "
"But the strike is not an objective in itself, the strike is just a tool to focus everybody's attention on the solution, and now that attention is focused on a solution."
"We will come back and engage and do everything that we can do ensure they don't have to strike and we can meet their objectives without doing that."
