It happened just off Capel Street.
A man has died after a suspected explosion in Dublin City Centre.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at a homeless shelter on Little Britain St. in Dublin city, shortly after 3;30 this afternoon.
The premises have been evacuated, with other residents brought to safety, and a cordon, along with local traffic diversions, have been put in place.
Wayne was in the homeless hostel at the time of the explosion and has described what happened:
"There was a bang and we saw a big cloud of smoke. The whole roof just came off and there was a big panic.
"They told us all to run out the exit door... [and] when we were walking out we looked up to see the cloud of smoke coming out of the roof."
Investigation
Gardaí are investigating what exactly caused the explosion, but it has been confirmed that it was a localised incident confined to one room.
The homeless charity Depaul has confirmed the incident happened at its premises.
All services users have been removed from the building and alternative accommodation will be found for them.
It says it's working with the Dublin Region Homeless Executive to make sure nobody will be left without accommodation.
