17 local authorities have no space for emergency accommodation for the homeless.
A total of seventeen local authorities no longer have emergency housing space.
The Sinn Féin research comes as the eviction ban is set to end later this month.
Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy, who's party carried out the research, says council space is stretched:
'The vast majority of them have absolutley no emergency accomodation whatsoever and in almost all other cases provision is extremely limited'.
It comes as homelessness figures have reached an all-time high.
Assistant Social Policy Professor at Maynooth University, Dr Rory Hearne, has said the government must postpone the Evictions Ban, and described the situation as 'intolerable'.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said this week a 'small portion' of evicted parties end up in emergency beds.
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín says the Taoiseach has got his priorities wrong:
'I think that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has put the needs of landlords over the needs who are homeless'.
In addition to the 17 councils with no capacity, 5 have 'extremely limited' space for emergency accommodation.
