Plans include rationing at petrol pumps for essential workers
The Government's emergency energy group meets today to discuss contingency plans in the event of fuel shortages.
These fuel shortages are caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
It'll formulate plans to supply energy to certain industries like food and medicine producers if there was to be a serious interruption to oil supplies this winter.
The emergency energy group is due to meet to discuss the worst-case-scenarios of low fuel.
Government plans for potential fuel shortages could include rationing at petrol pumps for essential workers.
Paddy Comyn from AA Ireland says people shouldn't worry too much, and emphasises it's just a contingency plan:
"People don't need to be overly alarmed because like any government would have a plan in place for such eventuality and nor a tax on the fuel that we buy because it stores a certain amount of fuel in such an event.
"Obviously when people hear things like this they will worry but with the war in Ukraine it is prudent for the government to start looking at the eventuality of there being fuel shortages."
