The scheme is expected to grow as the housing crisis continues to impact students
People are being urged to open up their homes and take in students for the academic year ahead.
Homeowners can make 14-thousand euro a year, tax free, by offering up spare rooms.
The scheme is expected to grow as the ongoing housing crisis continues to impact students.
A recent exemption from the Government means it also now applies to local authority homes.
Prospective landlords don't need to register with the RTB, but must live in the home along with the student.
People Before Profit's Gino Kenny says the scheme will be a good deal for both the homeowner and student:
"The scheme is trying to introduce a system where if somebody has a spare room, then they can rent that room out to a student for up to 14 thousand euro tax free and that would be not only beneficial to the person that owns the house but also the student.
"There is enormous challenges in relation to accommodation, particularly student accommodation coming up to the academic year."
