E-bike riders are "routinely exceeding speed limits" and are causing disruption in Limerick City.
Former Mayor, Councillor Daniel Butler, is calling for regulation and enforcement of e-bikes, saying some are going "well beyond" 25 kilometres an hour.
He has written to the Departments of Justice and Transport to highlight the issue, saying that some of the behaviours are dangerous:
"What we're seeing is them going around in gangs, not just going around ignoring the rules of the road, going against traffic, going across traffic, up on to footpaths at high speeds and with their faces covered as well."
"It seems to be a phenomenon since covid that we have these groups of individuals that can go around on these e-bikes with their face covered with face masks and balaclavas."
