It's expected Donald Trump will be given a 'warm welcome' when he visits County Clare next month.

The former US President is expected to visit his hotel and golf resort in Doonbeg during the first week of May.

The town is expected to receive some international attention as a result of the visit.

Local businesswoman Rita McInerney says his 2019 stay in the town received a lot of attention - which boosted tourism:

"The eyes of the world, maybe briefly on this occasion, will be on you and the west of Ireland is a fabulous location and we did get that spin off after the 2019 visit."

"People came and they were interested and curious and are more familiar with the property as a result."

Speaking to the Clare Echo, Rita also said:

"The Trump family have owned the business since 2014, they are very familiar with the property and any security or US security given the last visit would be very familiar with the resort, we’re quite remote and isolated so it is quite easy to navigate and secure a property like that, we haven’t had the Guards in to check us yet but I’m sure they will and keep us informed. The 2019 visit went off very successfully”.
