Doctors, solicitors and accountants have also missed out
A body representing dentists have expressed shock that they have been excluded from an energy support scheme that was announced in this year's budget.
Due to a Revenue classification, dentists along with doctors, solicitors and accountants are ineligible to apply for the support.
Catholic bishops have also called on the government to extend the scheme to churches and parish halls.
Chief Executive of the Irish Dental Association, Fintan Hourihan says dental practices face significant increases in energy bills.
“Dental surgeries, in addition to heating the waiting room, dentists incur significant energy and heating costs with all sorts of equipment necessary for infection control.
“Obviously that's particularly important in dentistry generally, but certainly over the last number of years it's even more important.“
