A helpline for victims of crime has noted a large increase in calls relating to hate offences and cyber crimes.

The Helpline saw a 78 percent increase in calls relating to LGBTQ+ and racist hate crimes last year.

It also says the number of contacts around a cyber crime, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, almost quadrupled in 2022, compared to the previous year.

In total, CVH received over 5,800 contacts with service users over twelve months, a 17 percent increase in a year.

Victims discussed 27 different types of crimes with assault and harassment among the main ones mentioned.

Staff and volunteers at the Crime Victims Helpline offer emotional support, and provide information about the justice system, rights and compensation.

The helpline is open from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and 2pm to 4pm on Saturdays.
