Women up to 30 years of age are going to be eligible for free contraception.

It's an expansion of a current scheme, which came into effect in September 2022.

There will also be an expansion of the medical card scheme which will allow for half a million people to get free visit GP cards.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the contraception scheme will help many women:

"I brought it in first aged 17 to 25, we extended from 25 to 26 at the start of this year so no woman aged out of the programme or the scheme and as of today it's moved up to 30."
