Consent workshops are to be rolled out to several schools next year. From April 2020, secondary school students will be able to attend consent classes.

The Smart Consent Workshops are being introduced after their success at third-level.

The classes saw a 600% increase in attendance in 2018 on college campuses, partly due to a number of high-profile rape cases.

The workshops were developed in NUIG’s School of Psychology and the programme has been adapted to suit the age profile of school students. The classes aimed at young people between 16 and 24 are also expected to be rollout to a number of sports clubs.
