It comes as tree theft has grown in recent years.

Fake Christmas trees could be in short supply soon due to delays and shortages.

Retail Excellence Ireland say many trees and products coming from Asia have been affected.

As a result, many will be opting to go for the real version this year and Gardaí are aiming to clamp down on theft.

According to An Garda Síochána, they'll be out in full force in Co. Wicklow in particular to combat robberies.

Wicklow is the most densely populated county in the country for the growth of the festive fir trees.

Superintendent Declan McCarthy says the force will be out conducting checkpoints and nightly patrols to help.

He says Gardaí have GPS co-ordinates of all the farms involved in growing Christmas trees in the Wicklow area.

He says they will have night vision equipment on hand - with the Garda helicopter an asset too.

Retail Excellence Ireland say supply issues shouldn't affect those purchasing trees on Black Friday.
