SVP voices serious concerns over carbon tax hike

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul says it has serious concerns about plans to increase the carbon tax from its current level.

A report in the Sunday Independent today says Fine Gael cabinet ministers believe the plan to hike carbon taxes by 6 or 7 euro per tonne in the Budget could pose an unnecessary financial burden on people.

The hike means a 12.5kg bale of briquettes could cost 15 cent more and a 14kg bag of coal may go up more than 70 cent.
