Car parking in State owned buildings well served by public transport is to be phased out under a new climate target plan for the civil service.
Minister Eamon Ryan is bringing the plan to Cabinet which will also see the end of single use cups and cutlery in public service canteens.
The Public Sector Climate Action Mandate will allow some parking for those with disabilities or on shift patterns not conducive to public transport.
Elsewhere bike travel in particular will be prioritised while the public sector will be told to only buy or lease zero emission vehicles where possible.
New public sector buildings also won't be allowed to install fossil fuel heating systems.
