There are calls for surveillance cameras to be installed along bus and cycle lanes to catch traffic breaches.
The National Transport Authority is making the call, as the bus network continues to be overhauled.
The NTA says installing cameras would avoid the BusConnects network from being undermined.
It's suggested that it would also help Gardaí enforce rules around the use of bus lanes by private cars.
Transport expert Conor Faughnan says the technology is there:
He says: "As BusConnects is being built, it's relatively easy to use camera technology to detect cars for the most part or anything with a registration."
The Road Safety Authority's strategic plan also recommends the introduction of such cameras.
