EU ambassadors will discuss the extension in Brussels later today.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the European parliament president have backed Donald Tusk’s call to grant the UK government a Brexit delay up to 31 January 2020.

It's after Boris Johnson's attempt to force the withdrawal agreement through parliament failed.

But it will allow the UK to leave before January 31st if the British parliament can get the Brexit deal passed.

EU ambassadors will discuss it in Brussels later.

A decision on an extension isn't expected today - and the EU is hoping to get written approval for it from leaders rather than having to call another EU Council Summit.
