A new survey carried out on employees and employers in the workforce has shown the two sides disagree when it comes to how personal issues are addressed in work.
The study by Excel Recruitment show 90 percent of the workforce surveyed don't believe their bosses offer enough compassionate benefits when faced with everyday life.
Almost thirty seven percent say the lack of support is down to a largely male dominated management structure, but only 1 in 10 staff think employers will offer more support in the next 5 to 10 years.
Managing Director of The HR Suite Caroline Reidy says workers may have forgotten the employee assistance programme is there to help:
"A lot of employers now have employee assistance programs in place. They're very badly advertised or promoted."
"I would say a lot of employees don't realise the extent of the offering. Because a lot of these things you're told about at an induction when you start your employment."
"People don't necessarily thing of 'well the employee assistance program is available to me and offers those kind of services."
