North and northwest expected to bear brunt of bad weather today

We can expect another day of wet and windy conditions after the southwest took a particular battering overnight.

The north and northwest are expected to bear the brunt of the wintry conditions today.

Some severe or damaging gusts are possible at times, with a status yellow wind warning now in place for the entire country.

Met Éireann's Paul Downes says President Joe Biden can expect some rough weather on the first day of his trip to Ireland;

"We're definitely giving him an Irish welcome with the weather for sure."

"Actually it's quite unprecedented so far this year so far, it's been a very settled winter."

"As far as storms, we haven't really had a main storm yet although we did have an orange warning there overnight down in Clare and Kerry, it really wasn't widespread enough to be a main storm."

"But unfortunately quite a rough day today."
