Irish holidaymakers are running for cover - as a heatwave in southern Europe continues to build.
Temperatures could climb to 48 Celsius in the coming days - potentially breaking records.
At least 500 people have been evacuated from their homes on the Spanish island of La Palma, after a forest fire in extreme heat.
Temperatures, already in their low 40s, could peak at around 48-degrees Celsius in Spain, Greece, Italy and Cyprus this week.
The weather dome's been described by meteorologists as like a saucepan with the lid on, trapping hot air.
The extreme heatwave across Europe is set to pose a serious risk to human life and crops.
Environmental journalist John Gibbons says the risks posed by such high temperatures cannot be underestimated:
"A study confirmed that last years European heatwave, over 61 thousand heat related deaths were recorded as a result of that heatwave.
"So sustained high temperatures are extremely dangerous for humans, particularly the elderly and the very young and we know as these heatwave intensify, they also effect crop production and we're seeing this right across Europe."
