Any new digestive symptom could be inflammatory bowel disease.

A new 'Poo Taboo' campaign on World IBD Day today is encouraging people to recognise the symptoms.

It's thought at least 40,000 people are living with the condition in Ireland, with most being diagnosed between 15 and 35 years of age.

Crohn's and Colitis Ireland spokesperson Amy Kelly says it has a new Symptom Checker.

'We want the public to not ignore the key signs of what can be a serious disease and our campaign features a symptom checker where in just 15 seconds, you'll know whether to contact your GP and what symptoms you should talk to them about. You can try the symptom checker on our website via www.chronscollitis.ie/symptonchecker.'
