At least 25 people have now died as tornadoes rip through several US states.

Authorities think the number will rise, warning the damage is so widespread - it would take days to reach all the affected areas.

Five of the casualties were in Arkansas, where rescue workers have been searching through the debris of destroyed homes and buildings.

90-thousand people are without power.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has declared a state of emergency and activated the national guard to help with recovery efforts.

She said she had spoken to President Joe Biden, who promised to expedite federal aid.

The National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings for several other states, from as far north as Iowa to the southern state of Mississippi.
