The Asthma Society says the number of people suffering fatal asthma attacks in Ireland is increasing.
The society has released new figures to mark World Asthma Day, showing that the condition affects nearly 500,000 people in Ireland, and one person dies from it every five days.
People living with asthma are being urged to develop an action plan, which the society says greatly reduces the risk of suffering a fatal attack.
Dublin woman Ciara Kelly's mother died after an asthma attack last year and she says an action plan could have saved her life:
"I fully believe that if my mam had an asthma action plan she'd still be here today. When people are going through an attack, obviously they're panicking, they don't know what to do, so if you have that action plan in front of you and you have those steps and you know that it's worsening, you can prevent an attack in the first place."
The Asthma Society is kicking off its first ever Asthma Roadshow during Asthma Awareness Week and this roadshow will travel around the country to help people get in control of their condition.
Over the past few weeks we asked you to tell us how much you know asthma management. The survey showed that most people do not know enough about asthma management.
