A man in his 60s has died after a serious assault in County Mayo over the weekend.
Peter McDermott passed away at Mayo University Hospital yesterday evening after being assaulted on High Street in Westport in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out on his body.
A man in his 20s who was arrested as part of this investigation was released from custody yesterday.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public of Prosecutions.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Any pedestrians or road users who were in the High Street area of Westport between 1am and 2am on Saturday and who may have camera footage are asked to make this available to them.
