Jozef Puska has been convicted of murdering the schoolteacher in January 2022.

Jozef Puska is facing a mandatory life sentence after he was convicted of the murder of Ashling Murphy.

The 23-year-old schoolteacher was murdered while exercising along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, on January 12th, 2022.

It took the jury more than two hours to find Jozef Puska, of Lynally Grove Mucklagh, Co. Offaly, guilty of Ashling's murder.

Ashling's mother Kathleen held up a picture of her daughter in Court 13, after the verdict was delivered.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt told the jury that he agreed with their decision, adding there was 'evil in this room'.

Ashling's brother Cathal says she was attacked by a predator who was not known to her:

"The judicial process cannot bring our darling Aisling back, but we are relieved that this verdict delivers justice.

"It is simply imperative that this vicious monster can never harm another woman again."

Meanwhile Ashling's boyfriend Ryan Casey paid tribute to her:

"Ashling was a vibrant, intelligent and highly motivated young woman who embodied so many great traits and qualities of the Irish people and its communities.

"Her life had a huge impact on so many of those around her and she was the epitome of a perfect role model for every little girl to look up to and strive to be."

Jozef Puska will be handed a mandatory life sentence, with a hearing to take place next week.
