The price drop in Lidl is effective from today
Aldi has dropped its milk prices just hours after Lidl.
It's the second price decrease in as many months for the two supermarkets giants.
A 10 cent drop in the price of Lidl's own-brand milk products came into effect this morning, with its German rival Aldi following suit this afternoon.
Lidl was the first retailer in May to reduce the price of the household staple, which has seen an unprecedented fluctuation in price.
Lidl says it will see a three million euro saving passed on to its shoppers.
The supermarket chain has dropped the price of 2-litre carton of milk from 2 euro 19 cent to 2 euro and 9 cent and the price drop is effective from today.
Keith O'Boyle is the chair of the Irish Farmers' Association's Liquid Milk Committee, he says these price cuts are disrespectful to farmers:
"It's unsustainable, the only person who's going to get this hit is the dairy farmer and we're not immune to the cost of living. We have a cost of living as consumers as well and unfortunately we're getting it on both sides."
